Asos goes Afrohip – UPDATED

There’s a long living debate about the lack of Afrohipness among the models and brand representatives in today’s fashion and beauty world. Even after the Vogue Italia Black Issue and a couple of other isolated attemps to give black women shine, it still is a sad reality that authentic black beauty does not get the attention it deserves.

In that respect, I have to give ASOS definite props for choosing this absolutely gorgeous black model to represent the Asos Salon collection (I want it all by the way, especially this dress) Now…what’s her name, what does she do, where is she from you might ask? Well…I wish I knew…I put my Googling skills to the test and did not find a thing about her! I even tweeted our friends at Asos to get a name but, alas, I didn’t hear back from them. If you know anything about her, dear Afrohipsters…please let us know!

UPDATE: We got the answer from our dear friend Aurélia aka @Manufactoriel on Twitter: her name is Jodie Smith (read her blog here). Grew up in the UK, studied in Pittsburg and started a career in Finance before following her dream and becoming a model…great movie Jodie, you definitely rock.

See below some pictures of her and do not forget to go on Asos and check the Asos Salon collection. Enjoy spring!
